Origins
Vanessa Dashwood grew up a daughter of a mountaineer in the great state of Colorado, learning to fly search and rescue planes to locate stranded mountain climbers. She learned to fix up planes and other mechanical vehicles as a result of this training. She was planning on sneaking into the military when Colorado broke away and had become a pirate's paradise. Her search and rescue missions became protection missions, an increasingly hopeless fight against the sky pirates who soon started to dot the mountainous skies.
Discovery
Vanessa spent a few years trying to fight off the pirates in her little corner of Free Colorado, sometimes retreating and sometimes failing and having to go to ground to fix the latest plane she was using. She began taking in a few likeminded individuals to band together, though she had strict standards of quality of her wingmen. That wasn't always conductive to teaming up, and eventually Vanessa came to find that Colorado was going to stay a mess until something proper got organized.

Appearance
Vanessa is a taller than average hispanic woman, standing just a hair under six feet in height. She is typically dressed in an aviator's brown jacket with a pair of sunglasses either tucked into a front pocket or worn over her brown eyes. Her black hair is typically tied back neatly and extends about an inch beyond her shoulders. Her plain brown pants are held up by a thick brown belt that often has several tools hung from it, just in case something needs fixing.
